Salvation Army

FedEx is committed to the work of the Salvation Army Disaster Response Services. Our support enables the Salvation Army and its emergency response personnel to be among the first to reach the site of devastation and immediately begin providing material, physical and emotional comfort for both survivors and first responders.

In light of our commitment, we have provided the Salvation Army the funding to purchase 11 Emergency Services Response Units, which are deployed during emergencies and disasters. The mobile canteens also are used within the community for various initiatives, including feeding the homeless, and can feed between 1,000 and 2,500 people per day. We have already donated emergency services response units to the Salvation Army in five U.S. cities -- Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York -- and Puerto Rico, and recently helped the charity deploy units in London, Mexico City, Sydney, Winnipeg, and New Orleans. In addition, FedEx provided funding for thousands of disaster-relief kits that will be distributed free to individuals impacted by disasters through the canteens. Each kit contains mops, brooms, sponges, gloves and cleaning solution containers.

We also support the Prepare to Respond to Emergencies-Planning and Readiness Education (PREPARE) program, designed to standardize disaster training for Salvation Army units and their communities outside the U.S. and Canada. The training program will increase in-country capacity to respond to emergencies and disasters. Started in 2003, PREPARE has already equipped more than 150 responders in 25 countries with critical knowledge and skills to react to all kinds of emergency scenarios.
