Relief Support
Heart to Heart International
FedEx is committed to utilizing our network to support disaster preparedness and contingency planning to pre-stage materials before a disaster strikes. Working with the relief organization Heart to Heart International, we have established four global forward-response centers to pre-stage relief supplies that can be quickly transported to people affected by a disaster. These centers allow Heart to Heart to get supplies where they’re needed immediately. In fact, with our logistics support relief materials, we can arrive anywhere in the world within 24 to 72 hours. Each center is stocked with 60 to 80 pallets of basic relief supplies: shelter, drinking water and medical supplies. The stock is automatically replaced once deployed, which takes advantage of the efficiency of our network. in 2007 alone, FedEx helped move $107 million in medical supplies to improverished areas around the world.
FedEx has helped Heart to Heart move disaster-relief supplies to China, Honduras, India, Israel, Iraq, Jamaica, Peru, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Turkey and Vietnam. We have also provided support to Indonesia and Thailand as part of the relief effort to aid survivors of the Southeast Asia tsunamis. Additionally, FedEx organizes the collection, inventory sorting, storage, clearance and transport of relief supplies to sites affected by earthquakes, hurricanes or other natural disasters. When a devastating earthquake struck Sichuam Province in May 2008, FedEx was the first company to airlift relief supplies. We transported more that #$1.5 million in relief supplies through a cooperative effort with Heart to Heart. For more information, visit www.hearttoheart.org.
