Junior Achievement
Globalization and on-time logistics have changed businesses around the world. Through our support of Junior Achievement, more than eight million children around the world the value of business and free enterprise and how to succeed in a global market economy, FedEx ensures our future leaders have access to educational opportunities.
We have pledged $1 million to Junior Achievement Worldwide to develop programs in 11 Asian Pacific countries. In September 2007, FedEx hosted the inaugural JA Worldwide/FedEx Express International Trade Challenge, a competition designed to help develop the entrepreneurial spirit of young people in the Asia-Pacific region. Nine teams of two students competed against each other, with three teams each from Australia, Hong Kong and South Korea. The teams presented the business strategies and tactics they would use to market their selected products in an overseas market.
With an additional $1 million pledge, we launched a global competition that enables teams of students from around the world to compete for the FedEx Global Impact Award that recognizes the team that demonstrates the most comprehensive understanding of global trade.
In addition, FedEx employees volunteer their time to coach the students and facilitate business lessons throughout the world. For example, FedEx Canada sponsors a daylong interactive program at local schools titled “The Economics of Staying in School,” which encourages students to consider the advantages of staying in school until they have secured the knowledge and skills to accomplish their personal and career goals. Since the program was launched in 2005, the program has educated 2,300 seventh- and eighth-grade students. For more information, please visit www.ja.org.
