Everyday Heroes

At FedEx, we are proud of our 290,000 team members around the world. Each and every day, our team members go above and beyond the call of duty. Whether it’s rescuing a fellow motorist in need on a flooded road, supporting disaster-relief efforts around the globe, or volunteering time to a local organization, our employees contribute their compassion, time and expertise to help support our local communities.

Cher Woodward
As active members of the Oakland community, Senior Manager Cher Woodward and her colleagues at the FedEx Express Oakland Hub have become passionate partners with the Alameda County Community Food Bank. Each week, Cher and local drivers work with the food bank to deliver food and other household items to families in need through local schools’ Backpack Program. Thanks to support from volunteers like Cher and FedEx, the Alameda County Community Food Bank is able to continue serving more than 40,000 local families each week of the year.

Mark Goodson and Mike Mitchell
FedEx was one of the first organizations to respond to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, working closely with nonprofit groups to rush in emergency aid. Individual employees wanted to get involved as well. Mark Goodson, a FedEx Kinko’s manager in Baton Rouge, La., opened his center to volunteers from the American Red Cross to provide easy access to Internet, fax machines, phone lines and other business services necessary to coordinate relief efforts. FedEx Project Technical Analyst Mike Mitchell watched the devastation on TV and saw an opportunity for FedEx to assist with the restoration of on-the-ground communications. Mike suggested donating more than 150 two-way radios used during the FedEx Cup Golf Classic and, with the assistance of the U.S. Army’s 82nd Division, Mike went to New Orleans and repaired a radio repeater that had been damaged in the storm. The result? Restored radio communications for the Army, CIA and local law enforcement.
